We build this array off one product page, so having a free app cover this entire functionality is the best option we could ask for.
We tried other, paid apps before landing on Rubik, and they were confusing and did not easily achieve our intended functionality. This app presented the configuration options in a very approachable way, and we were quickly able to get our page setup to 95%, only running into an issue with image order on some of the variant intersections/combinations. We reached out to support, and within 15 minutes they had determined that the order of our images within the basic Shopify product page had created our issue, which we corrected and immediately our issue was fixed.
We couldn't be happier with this app, highly recommend for anyone looking to add functionality to their pages variant photos and customer experience. -

You can't imagine how messy our set was before this app! Now it's perfect! Truly changed our store for the better and made my life a LOT easier.
I'm not going to explain the app's features here, but if you need the features they offer, just go for it and try the app. FYI: I found the bulk processing and AI features to be very sophisticated. I tried it on one product (feee trial) and then purchased the app right away because it helped so much. We only need it for about 40 products but it's a huge improvement for us.
This is a little geeky, but it may be helpful:
A big problem we had was that we wanted all our variant thumbnail images to be visible at once, so users could see the variety we offered. But showing all the variant thumbnails below the main image caused confusion because clicking on a thumbnail did not select that variant in the variant picker (by design in Shopify Dawn theme). The user would sometimes purchase the wrong variant because of this. But now the variant picker and the thumbnails are unified, so the user clicks the thumbnail to select the variant AND display the main image for that variant. It's way less confusing. This is more like how leading stores work.
We also sell a lot of one-of-a-kind variants (stock of 1 item per variant), so sometimes we have 20 variants for a given product. Since there is only one of each variant, they sell out quickly, and users saw a LOT of unavailable variants (which was really messy and ugly). And even worse, although we could hide the sold out variants in the picker with a little custom code, we had no way to hide the thumbnails for the sold out variants. This meant we might have only two available products but 20 variant thumbnails visible (18 of which were sold out. Yuk. But no yuk more! Now with Rubik, we hide all unavailable variants AND their thumbnails both at once (since the thumbnails are the picker itself).
Some of the functions in Rubik can be done with custom code and some specific settings in the Dawn theme, but my experience was that I could never get all the features I wanted to work together using custom code. I spent a lot of time messing with the code and gave up in the end. Rubik satisfied all my requirements without conflicting with anything else on the site. Great work by the Rubik gang! -

1. Bugs or not, the support will respond in less than a minute. (I have raised 4-5 queries, between 4-5 days and its always the same. REALLY fast response.)
2. The technical team will fix whatever issue you are having that SAME MOMENT. Not like "Okay we will look into this", More like "ON IT!...DONE please check!"
3. The app is top notch. you can customize it how ever you feel like, The options are really good. AI has been integrated, HELPS ALOT WITH SORTING IMAGES. IF YOU HAVE NAMED YOUR IMAGES. -

What merchants are reviewing
Shopify shows every photo of a product in one gallery. A shopper who picks Blue still scrolls past the red and the green ones, and the native variant image field holds a single picture per variant. Rubik Variant Images & Swatch assigns each image, video and 3D model to an option value, so selecting Blue leaves the blue media on screen and hides the rest. The same option values can be drawn as image swatches, colour swatches or pill buttons in place of the theme dropdown. More on how variant images work.
Images are matched to values in three ways: by hand, by an automatic matcher that reads the product title, the option name and value, the filename, the alt text and the picture itself, or by a bulk run that reads the order images already sit in inside your Shopify gallery. The bulk run works through hundreds of products in the background. Swatches can also appear on the product card in collections, search and home listings, where a click swaps the card image and can update its price and add to cart link. The swatch setup guide and the collection page guide go deeper.
The assignment is saved in a Shopify metafield and read by a theme app extension, so a shopper never waits on a call to our servers. How do I show only the selected variant's images on a Shopify product page?
Shopify's gallery shows every image of the product whatever the shopper selects. This app assigns each image to an option value, then hides the images belonging to the other values as soon as a shopper picks one. You assign them by hand, with the automatic matcher, or with a bulk run that reads the order your gallery is already in. Variant images explained.
Can one variant have several images?
Yes. Shopify's own variant image field holds exactly one picture per variant. The app groups as many images as you want behind a single option value, and the whole group appears when that value is selected. Videos and 3D models are assigned the same way. How do I add colour swatches to a Shopify product page?
Turn swatches on and choose the option they replace. Three kinds are available and they mix across options: image swatches, colour swatches and pill buttons. Shape, size, spacing, borders and the selected state are set in a visual editor, and the swatches render inside a shadow root so theme CSS cannot leak in and break them. The swatch setup guide.
Can swatches appear on collection pages?
Yes, on the product card. The app draws one product's variant swatches on its card across collection pages, search results and home page listings. Clicking a swatch swaps the card image, and it can also update the card price and the add to cart link. The feature is off until you switch it on. Will it work with my theme?
The app ships integrations for more than 350 Shopify themes, among them the Dawn and Horizon families, Prestige, Impulse, Impact and Focal, and it reads both Shopify's native variant selector and custom ones. Seven page builders are supported: Beae, EComposer, Foxify, GemPages, Instant, PageFly and Replo. Product card swatches are mapped theme by theme, so card support covers a smaller list than product page support.
Does it slow the store down?
The assignment lives in a Shopify metafield, and the theme app extension reads it from the page itself. No request goes to our servers while a shopper browses, so a slow or unreachable app server cannot hold up a product page.
What does it cost, and is there a free plan?
The free plan covers one product. Starter is 25 dollars a month for 100 products, Advanced 50 dollars for 1,000 and Premium 75 dollars for unlimited products. Can I set up hundreds of products at once?
Yes. The bulk run groups images by the order they already sit in inside the Shopify gallery: a variant's first image opens a group and the images after it belong to that variant until the next boundary. It makes no AI calls and works through the catalogue in the background. If you would rather have every image looked at, an opt-in sends the same bulk run through the automatic matcher instead.
What happens when a product has colour and size?
Assign the images to the option that actually changes what the product looks like, usually colour. With more than one option a variant shows the media its values have in common, so a Blue and Large variant shows the blue images.
My variant images are not showing. What should I check first?
Check that the app embed is enabled in the theme editor, that the product has actually been configured in the app, and that the option you assigned images to is the option the theme's selector uses. Those three cover most cases. Full troubleshooting guide.
