Ritual Shopify theme: price, features and variant images
Ritual Shopify theme: price, features and variant images
What Ritual costs, how Shopify rates it, which features it carries, and what it does about colour on its own rather than leaving to an app. Every figure here is read from the theme's own page in the Shopify Theme Store on 12 September 2026.
Short answer: Ritual stores one featured image per variant, because that is all Shopify stores, so a shopper who picks a colour still scrolls past every other one. Rubik Variant Images, built by Craftshift, assigns a separate image set to every variant so the gallery filters instead, and the picker becomes swatches. Free to install.

How Shopify describes Ritual
What Ritual handles on its own
Every row here is a feature Shopify names on the Ritual page. None of it needs an app, and knowing which of them you already have is the difference between installing something useful and installing something that duplicates the theme.
- Colour swatches on the product pageThe picker can show colours rather than a dropdown of words, using the theme's own swatch support.
- Colour filtering on collection pagesA shopper can narrow a collection to one colour without opening a product.
- Zoom on product photographyThe detail a shopper is judging is reachable rather than served small.
- A gallery rather than a single imageMore than one photograph per product, which is where variant filtering becomes worth doing.
- Quick view from the collection pageA shopper can look without leaving the grid, which changes what a swatch on a card is worth.
- Shopify combined listingsThe theme can render Shopify's own combined listing feature, which links separate products.
- Long option lists on one pageColour, size and material can sit on one product page without the layout falling apart.
The one thing Ritual cannot fix, because no theme can
Shopify keeps one featured image against a variant. One. That is a platform rule rather than a Ritual decision, and it is why a shopper who clicks the second colour on any Shopify theme still sees a gallery containing every colour you sell. Swapping theme does not change it. Editing the theme code does not change it either, because there is nowhere in Shopify to put the second image.
Rubik Variant Images assigns a separate set of images, videos and 3D models to each variant and stores the mapping in Shopify metafields, so the gallery filters to whatever the shopper picked. The same mapping turns the variant picker into image, colour or pill swatches, and can put those swatches on product cards in a collection as well.
It renders inside a shadow root, which matters on a theme you paid for: the theme's CSS and the app's cannot reach into each other, so a Ritual update cannot break the swatches and the swatches cannot break Ritual.
Setting it up on Ritual
- Install and open the app. It reads your catalogue straight away; there is nothing to import and no theme file to edit.
- Assign the images. Drag them onto each variant, or let the bulk tool group them by the order they already sit in your Shopify gallery, which handles hundreds of products in the background.
- Turn on the theme app extension. In your Ritual customiser, under App embeds. This is the step people forget, and it is the reason a swatch row sometimes does not appear.
- Style the swatches. Shape, size and layout are visual settings rather than code, and there is a live preview with your own products in it.

Ritual, questions merchants ask
Does the Ritual theme support multiple images per variant?
Not on its own, and neither does any other Shopify theme. Shopify stores one featured image against a variant, so Ritual shows the whole gallery whichever colour a shopper picks. Rubik Variant Images assigns a separate set of images to each variant and filters the gallery to the selection.
Does Ritual have colour swatches?
Shopify lists Color swatches among the 41 features it publishes for Ritual, so the picker can show colours rather than words. What the theme does not do is change the gallery when one is clicked, which is the part an app handles.
What is the Ritual theme store id?
It is 3625. Every theme sold in the Shopify Theme Store has one, and it is what an app matches on to know which layout it is looking at. Open your storefront, open the browser developer console and type Shopify.theme.theme_store_id to check what your own shop reports.
Do I have to edit the Ritual theme files?
No. The app loads through a theme app extension and reads its data from Shopify metafields, so nothing in the Ritual code is touched and a theme update cannot unmap what you set up. Uninstalling leaves the theme exactly as it was.
How much does Ritual cost, and how much does the app cost?
Ritual costs nothing, and Shopify build and maintain it themselves. Rubik Variant Images is free for one product, and paid plans start at $25 a month for a hundred products. The theme licence is a one off payment, the app is monthly, and the two are unrelated.
