Best Shopify color swatch apps (2026)

Color swatches are the cheapest CRO tweak to upgrade your Shopify store. They’re easier to skip over than regular dropdowns, more scannable, and make it instantly clear that your product comes in multiple colors if you happen to carry them. There are a lot of apps that will allow you to use color swatches on your store instead of regular dropdowns, and there are many reasons why certain apps are better than others. However, most comparisons end up just listing out the names of the actual apps available on the Shopify App Store instead of actually comparing the two. Every app included in this comparison post is actually available on the Shopify App Store, and if it’s not listed here, it either doesn’t exist or I’m unaware of it.
Focus: best shopify color swatch apps 2026. Six real apps to show you some more shopify color swatch options. First up is Rubik Variant Images because the ability to display color swatches is what the app does. Then the rest in order of length. I don’t endorse any of these apps, and I don’t pad out my reviews with fake merchant quotes or artificially pumped up stats.
A clarification: Swatches on the product page vs swatches on the collection page are two different features. Swatches on the product page live in the variant picker, which is a basic feature of the core theme. Swatches on the collection page typically live on the product cards, and often require a secondary feature: combined listings. We’ll go over both options.

What matters in a color swatch app
Shape variety (circle, square, pill, button). Custom hex/image support. Option to hide out of stock product variants. Mobile tappable product size (minimum 44x44px touch target for finger friendly clickability). Product options rendered from metafields (previously enabled in 2.2.0, this prevents slow loading) and. Sane admin settings. (you’ll be looking at the store in the app more than the admin)
skip apps that require you to edit a theme file. skip Shopify payment apps that scale in price with your shopify plan – they’ll be way too expensive after you move up to a higher plan.. skip any theme apps that don’t offer a preview within the Shopify admin..

1. Rubik Variant Images & Swatch
Rubik Variant Images & Swatch by Craftshift is Built for Shopify. 5.0 stars, 343 reviews. Swatches come in four shapes (circle, square, pill, button) and can be defined by hex code or by thumbnail image. Sizes can be customised. All aesthetic settings – border, shadow, spacing and hover states – can also be customised. Option to hide out-of-stock variant. All settings are metafield-based – which means that there are no runtime API calls, and your pages will not slow down.
It doesn’t just do swatches though which is what I was expecting. Apparel stores these days need an app that can do swatches and image filtering for each variant on the product page (i.e. so when someone clicks on the “Olive” option only olive images show up, for example). Rubik does both which is the biggest win for possible conversion.

Pricing is flat: Free ($0/1 product), Starter ($25/100), Advanced ($50/1000), Premium ($75/unlimited). No extra charge for higher Shopify-plans. Image handling is left to AI (it will automatically assign AI handled images to your products, one handled image per product – if you have 5 images for one product, 1 will be handled by AI and the rest will not). All images of a product will be assigned handled if you bulk assign handled to products from catalog in the order of gallery images. Full info including a demo and a step by step tutorial, as well as full documentation is available at rubikvariant.com.
2. GLO Color Swatch & Bundles
Globo.io – 4.9 stars 1,742 reviews (biggest in the category). Comes with color and image swatches, product out of stock hiding, bulk upload, and a really cool product bundles feature. There’s a free plan, paid plans start at $9.90/month for 99 products and 99 variations. The $19.90/month Gold plan comes with combined listings. Very good option if you need product swatches and product bundles in one shopping cart app and don’t want to overpay.
3. NS Color Swatch Variant Images
NestScale. 4.9 stars, 161 reviews. Not Built for Shopify badge: Swatches, dropdown menus and buttons all included, as well as image galleries for product variants. Also works on collection pages and enables you to group separate products as variants. Entry-level app that’s cheap at $7.99/mo, but not as feature-rich as some of the more expensive options, like Rubik.
4. StarApps Variant Image Automator
StarApps Studio. 4.8 stars, 578 reviews. Last updated 2017, so longest lasting code in this category. Auto-groups images in order they appear on your Shopify store. Simple and small, very conservative code. If you want an older, more stable app with less frequent updates, StarApps is the way to go.
5. Variant Image Wizard + Swatch
ProductWiz Inc. – 4.8 stars, 343 reviews. Advanced swatch configuration with easy step by step setup wizard. Ability to do bulk edits. 30 day free trial. Good for large or upscale fashion stores with complex multi-dimensional options.
6. Easy Variant Images
SpiceGems=3D 5.0 stars, 77 reviews. This is less a swatch app and more a “variant image auto-grouper” that uses your theme’s native gallery instead. So it’s super simple and looks minimal. Supports videos, 3D etc. Just install and let it be, you wont want to add any extra load on your store.

Unpopular opinion: the best swatch app isn’t the one with the most features. The best swatch app is the one where you don’t need to open support to ask for a change in one border radius. Shipping less but with better defaults beats shipping 200 settings you’ll never use for your needs.
