When choosing a good variant image app, there are 3 essential functionalities that the app must fulfill. They are displaying variant product images from swatches on the product details page, installing the app without editing theme files, and keeping page speed intact. Everything else just doesn’t matter (at least for now, until those things start to matter more and trends shift). In this article, we’ll highlight 6 of the best rated image variation apps found on the Shopify App Store, organized by their ratings, pricing points, and suitability to different types of Shopify stores.

I wrote one of these apps (Rubik) so I should probably at least glance at the others to see if I have any legitimate gripes with them. But let’s be honest, the good points far outweigh any quibbles I have with the interface so I’ll just move on already.

The other options are all from other developers, but this one is from Globo (Vietnam), one of the largest Shopify developers with one of the widest install bases. They offer several different app combinations, and this is one of them – they also offer a variant option that combines a couple of other features, which is called just “GLO”. But this is the “variant image” version, and it has the exact same app in combined listings comparisons.
